Time to get the river cleaned up! This Sunday, 27th November, Athy & District Anglers Club will be cleaning and preparing the match stretch of the river Barrow for winter fishing. We have pegs along both banks of the Barrow in Athy town, by Pettits SuperValu and on the opposite bank at the Castle. At our last river work event, steps were installed down the steeper banks on the Pettits side to allow easier access to those pegs.
For this river work event, we will be preparing the pegs for winter fishing. This is going to include:
Cutting weeds in front of the pegs for snag free access
Raking swims in front of pegs to clear out any weed and snags
Trimming any overhanging foliage for clear casting
Cutting back of bank weed / foliage for easy and safe access
To learn more about cleaning swims and why we do it, check out our Getting Involved page!
We welcome any members who can spare an hour or two to come and give a hand! This is a great way to get involved with the club and get to know the committee members, maybe even pick up a few tips and tricks for fishing the venue! Prior experience is not required, everyone is always happy to teach.
