Winter League Final & Results
Des with an absolutely crackin’ hybrid!
What a fantastic days fishing for our Athy & District Angler Club winter league final! While there was a cold wind, the rain stayed off and the fish stayed feeding.
The final of this years Winter League was held on the River Barrow. A huge thank you from all of us here at Athy Anglers to Murph’s of Carlow for sponsoring this match with some fantastic prizes!

We have a lot to cover so let’s get right into it!
The Winter League Final
Everyone met at Shaws car park for the winter league final, with pegs drawn at 08:45. Everyone got set up and fishing commenced at 10:00.
What followed was some excellent fishing on both sides of the bank. Des started well with Roach in the peg followed up by some beautiful hybrids! Tommy caught dace after dace after dace on the whip, Jimmy put a staggering 118 fish in his net throughout the match! Chris had a flying start with Roach and Dace, and Ollie landed a beautiful Barrow Roach!
Some mishaps along the way too. Tommy repeatedly caught a tree instead of a fish, though we were very impressed with the Dace hopping off the hook and into the keepnet on their own! Ryan lost a feeder rig (and a quiver tip!) to a botched cast and a snag.
All that aside though, a fantastic days fishing had all round, and what a superb way to finish our Winter League.

First place goes to Des with a cracking 34lb 6ozs!
2nd Place goes to Tommy with a fantastic 33lb 6ozs
3rd Place goes to Jimmy with another fantastic weight of 33lb 2ozs
A happy Chris with 13lb 4ozs takes 4th!

Winter League Results
With the final wrapped up, it’s time to announce our final rankings for the Athy & District Anglers Club 2022 Winter League!
