Athy Anglers Match Calendar 2023

The new year is upon us! With our AGM concluded and the 2022 Winter League wrapping up, it’s time to take a look at our 2023 match calendar!

We have a lot of events coming up this year including a 3-match Summer Mini-League, 4 Memorial matches and lots of members matches throughout the year. We’re also looking at the organization of an inter-club series of matches with other clubs in our surrounding area.

Additionally, and depending on club member engagement/demand, we may run additional member matches aside from what is listed here as committee availability allows.

Important to note: All matches organized by Athy Anglers are club member matches only unless otherwise stated!

With all that said, have a look through the calendar below and check out what we’ve got coming up!

F.A.Q

How do I join a match?

We collect match signups via our Facebook group which you can find here. We will post the details of the match up to 2 weeks before it is scheduled to happen. Match participation is on a first come first serve basis, no spot reserving and no exceptions! For high demand matches, we may have a “standby” list.

What is a standby list?

A standby list is a list of anglers who will be contacted if any of the confirmed match anglers have to drop out. Being on the standby list does not guarantee you a place in the match!

Will you be running more matches than this?

Matches are organized on the personal time and effort of the club committee members, as such we organize as many as we can reasonably commit to. If there is high demand for additional matches, the course committee may add additional match dates throughout the year where possible. There is also a lot of preparation and maintenance work involved in making sure our venues are match-ready. Additional support from our members in maintaining these venues will help immensely in additional match organizing. You can learn more in our getting involved section.

Why is there an entry fee?

Entry fees go towards the prizes that are given on the bank to the match participants. We always endeavour to pay the top 3 positions in a match and may pay more positions depending on the amount of participation and any sponsorships secured for the match.

What do I need to fish a match?

At a minimum you need: a landing net, a keepnet, a rod or pole with appropriate tackle such as float rigs or feeders and a hook degorger. Many of our match anglers will show up to the bank with a lot more than this but don’t let that intimidate you! Many a float rod angler with a camping chair have taken top spots at course matches.
