24th June Match Results

First a huge thank you to the Clanard Court hotel of Athy for sponsoring us with a spot prize of a free meal for 2! And also a huge thank you to Athy Plant Hire for sponsoring the match as well! Greatly appreciated by the club.

The meal for 2 was raffled off after the draw via a blind peg draw by our own Paula. Funnily enough, Mick won the free meal for two…which was promptly handed back to Paula to keep safe for him. A stewards inquiry will shortly be following to ensure the two weren’t in kahoots for a quick sunday meal!

A very suspicious looking Mick receiving his free meal for 2. Some say he still doesn’t know whether to bring Paula or Noel…

Crazy winds made this match particularly challenging! The wind rarely let up throughout the match, forcing most anglers to stay close to the bank with their poles. With little hope of getting to the middle, deeper parts of the canal most anglers would take to the margins in an effort to lure out any larger fish hiding. One such angler struck into a beautiful tench on a silverfish top kit, with a super-light elastic the tench had the run of the swim and promptly made it’s escape!

Not all was lost though, a few anglers had some exceptional fish in their pegs and went about expertly retrieving them. Peg 5 surprised most with a fantastic showing of tench, while peg 24 kept its reputation of being a very strong peg delivering a confident 2nd place. Peg 15 also delivering well on roach as well as tench, giving a strong 3rd place! Elsewhere, hard days were had with pegs 9, 14, 16 and 22 delivering less than a pound in weight.

Overall a hard fished match, and a tight finish to the summer league. Let’s check out the results!

  1. Ollie Flynn - 9lb 10ozs

  2. Chris - 7lb 14ozs

  3. Colin - 6lb 12ozs

Huge well done to Ollie Flynn our winner and to our framers too. A hard match well fished lads, great stuff!

17th June Match Results

What a phenomenal days fishing! Truly some stunning Tench, Bream & Hybrids on display during this match. We’ve had a 14th Angler join the banks today for the second match of our 3-match mini Summer league, welcome Jimmy!

Despite the dodgy weather and thunder on the horizon, all anglers persevered and some excellent weights were reported when all was said and done! Well done to all of our anglers on the bank today.

Whereas the last match was won by roach, this match was absolutely won by tench, hybrids & bream. Some excellent fun playing these beautiful fish into the keepnets! Anglers who did best at feeding little and often, maintaining a good active presence in their pegs took today away!

Let’s take a look at some of those bags:

All out called again at 21:15 and weigh ins commenced! Let’s see who our winner and framers were:

  1. Ciaran - 12lb 8ozs

  2. Colin - 11lb 10ozs

  3. Ollie Doyle - 10lb 8ozs

Very well done!!

10th June Match Results

A far better showing from the Canal this match again! Match ran quite late, from 5:15pm to 9:15pm, however most of the catching across the stretch took place in the first ~2 hours. Goes to show how important it is to capitalize on an active swim early!

13 anglers in total are fishing this league, with full attendance for this evening’s match. Draws took place at 4pm and everyone made their way to the bank. A special callout to those anglers that jumped the gun and mounted the bank too early, causing traffic jams. We know who you are ;)

Most of the weight today came from Tench & Hybrids, delighted to see them showing strongly from the canal! The winner however took the victory mostly on roach! Some beautiful fish and great fishing to get so many of them in. Well done to all!

Congratulations to our Winner & Framers:

  1. Colin Oliver - 9lb 6ozs

  2. Tommy - 9lb

  3. Chris - 6lb 9ozs
