River Barrow Cleanup 4th December
Brutally cold morning in Athy today! 4 degrees on the way in and ice on the windshields. Winter is definitely here. The rains have stayed off for the most part over the last week and the water levels are dropping on the river, finally the Barrow has let us in to clean out the pegs. There were some serious weeds clogging up quite a few of the pegs on the Castle side and some overhanging branches just waiting to snag an unsuspecting angler on the cast! All this had to be dealt with ahead of our Winter League match next Sunday being held on the river.
With Noel celebrating his birthday this weekend (happy birthday noel!) the supervisors become the supervised as we cut our way through the weed growth. The hot summer and rainy autumn had caused some serious congestion of weeds particularly along the slower flowing castle side of the river.
Quite a few anglers down there today with some lovely roach being caught! Fair play to everyone who moved on behind us as we worked our way up through the pegs, much appreicated.
Here’s looking forward to a successful first river match of the winter league on Sunday 11th!
